Brainspotting Therapy
Brainspotting Therapy
Brainspotting is another brain-body based treatment to help re-process trauma in the subcortical brain by locating a focused eye position. It works by identifying, processing, and releasing core neuro-physiological origins of emotional and physical pain and coping mechanisms related with PTSD or trauma. Brainspotting accesses the area deep within the brain and body to help re-process trauma.
Brainspotting appears to awaken, concentrate, and ignite the body's natural ability to self-heal from trauma. During "inside window" Brainspotting, the therapist and client collaborate to identify Brainspots together, guided by the client's visceral experience of the peak intensity of emotion or bodily distress of the targeted memory that we are processing. However, it does not always have to be at high intensity in order to process the emotion or memory. I will always ask what feels comfortable enough for you. With trauma-informed care, I will collaborate with the client to ensure safety and not to overwhelm the nervous system. We will go at your own pace and prepare your nervous system with resourcing and coping strategies before we begin the trauma work.
